Quote of the Week
"The blessed lord said: Both renunciation (of action) and the Yoga of action lead to the supreme good. But of the two, the Yoga of action is superior to the renunciation of action."
Bhagavad-Gita 5.2
Commentary: All paths lead to God, even the radical path of renunciation of action, or to be more precise, renunciation of the fruits of action, i.e., action to gain something we think we lack; the implication being that we lack nothing! Yet we each must "choose" the actions and path that is appropriate for us, given our personality, temperament, interests and abilities. We cannot "choose" not to act, for that is divinely ordained as a requirement of physical life; we can only "choose" the actions or path we wish to take. I say "choose" in quotes because even that choice is inspired by the Divine, as Shakespeare eloquently expressed it: "All the world's a stage and all the men and women merely players." Still, the yoga of action, i.e. inspired action is superior since it provides experience in harmony with physical reality, as opposed to renunciation which is more focused on the Divine as the goal of physical reality.
