Quote of the Week
"The Lord creates neither the authorship of action nor the actions of beings; nor does He create the link between (the doer,) the action, and its fruits; Nature carries this out."
The All-pervading Intelligence does not accept the sin or even the merit of anyone. Wisdom is veiled by ignorance. Thereby creatures are deluded.
Bhagavad-Gita 5-14,15
Commentary: These two verses emphasize the notion that the Creator is completely uninvolved in our actions at every level: from the inception of an action (its authorship if you will,) to the action itself, as well as to its results or fruits--the punishment or reward respectively for sinful or meritorious actions. This gives us a radically different perspective and motivation for undertaking any action. Actions are of two kinds, those motivated by some imagined material, mental, emotional, or even spiritual reward, either in the near or distant future here on earth, or in some future afterlife. As opposed to those actions motivated only by: our intuitive passion, excitement, or interest in doing the action; our awareness of the need for the action, and by our ability to do it--these are the primary considerations for any action that would be wise, and without self-delusion.

Wings of Desire is about invisible, immortal angels who populate Berlin and listen to the thoughts of its human inhabitants, comforting the distressed when needed. Even though the city is densely populated, many of the people are isolated or estranged from their loved ones. One of the angels, played by Bruno Ganz, falls in love with a beautiful, lonely trapeze artist, played by Solveig Dommartin. The angel chooses to become mortal so that he can experience human sensory pleasures, ranging from enjoying food to touching a loved one, and so that he can experience human love.
Hope to see you there! ☺
