Commentary:  In verses 2.11-12 Krishna identified grief as the fundamental problem, and our immortal unified Spirit as the ultimate solution.  For the last five verses (2.17-21) Krishna has emphasized the nature of this immortal Spirit and the many implications that emanate from it, the first of which is that we, and every single expression of creation are also immortal, because we are one with Spirit.  All the infinite variety of creation are just expressions of this one eternally unified Spirit:  the one Spirit is the all, and all are the one Spirit.  These two characteristics of Spirit (immortality and unity) comprises Krishna's first answer to the many questions Arjuna raised in the first chapter.  Verse 2.17 expressed Spirit as indestructible, all-pervading, and unchanging.  Verse 2.18 describes Him as eternal, imperishable, infinite.  Verse 2.19 describes His unchanging nature--He neither slays nor is slain; neither acts nor is acted on.  Verse 2.20, states that He is unborn, eternal, everlasting, ancient, i.e. transcendental to the creation; and in this present verse He is described as indestructible, unborn, and undying.  The reason for the Lord's repetitious emphasis on these characteristics is to drive home to Arjuna, and to us, that they are the most fundamental characteristics of our own nature, and by understanding them and their implications we will better understand who we really are, i.e. our true identity, which is the ultimate solution to all apparent problems.
