Quote of the Week
"One who acts giving over all action to the universal Being, abandoning attachment, is untouched by sin as a lotus leaf by water."
Bhagavad-Gita 5.10
Commentary: "...giving over all action to the universal Being..." means understanding that the universal Being (Brahman, God, etc.) even though It does not act at all, It is still the source of all action. Just as our physical mind, and body while asleep, i.e. not acting, is still the source of all the actions we seem to make in our dreams. When we truly understand this we become free of "sin"--the attachment to having things be a particular way. Thus do we abandon attachment and remain as untouched by sin as a lotus leaf remains untouched and unaffected by water. The implication is that we're all dream-characters in the dream of the universal Being, like actors hired to play particular roles so that the Divine dreamer can experience every single aspect of itself both from the perspective of Its unified whole Self, and simultaneously from the perspectives of all Its infinite individual aspects. After playing our parts we return to the awareness of our unity and rejoice in the positive value of having experienced the various individual aspects of our unified wholeness.
