Quote of the Week
Then, seeing the sons of Dhritarashtra drawn up in battle order, as missiles were about to fly, the son of Pandu (Arjuna), whose banner bore the image of Hanuman, took up his bow (Gandiva).  
Bhagavad-Gita 1.20

Commentary:  This verse shows the confident mental state of the hero Arjuna.  As a kshatriya (warrior/ruler) he is ready to face any enemy.  Seeing the danger of the opposing army arranged in battle formation, he picks up his bow and is ready to enter the fray, confident in his ability to win, even though the size of the opposing army is significantly larger than his own, and is led by the greatest warriors of his time.  His present state of mind will dramatically change in the next few verses as he begins to fully realize the tragic implications involved in executing his call to duty as a warrior.  There is always positives and minuses involved in any decision to act, and it is wise to consider these both, if at all possible, before initiating that action; for a warrior though, this consideration is often sadly done in hindsight.
