Quote of the Week
"These bodies are known to have an end; the dweller within the body is eternal imperishable, infinite. Therefore, O Bharata fight!"
Bhagavad-Gita 2.18
Commentary: In this verse, lord Krishna makes an even more intimate distinction between the real and the unreal (the eternal and the temporal respectively), by identifying the stark difference between the eternal soul and the temporal body. In stating that "the dweller within the body is eternal" Krishna is stating the truth in a way that makes it easy for Arjuna to understand the close relationship between the two, even though technically, it is the body that lives within the soul, Krishna is here emphasizing their contrasting natures. This is an example of Krishna's skill in teaching the truth in terms and concepts the student can readily assimilate. The difference in size will become obvious in time. Krishna is also making the case that we who think we are our temporal body, are mistaken; instead, we are the eternal unchanging Soul that gives rise to a body as the ocean gives rise to a wave. Arjuna, therefore has no reason to avoid the fight, since, win or loose, his eternal status as a soul remains unchanged. This in fact is the central teaching of the Gita, that we are souls, not bodies; eternal and indestructible, not temporal and destructible. This motif is woven throughout the Gita.

This movie opens our awareness to the intricate decision making process or lack thereof involved in modern warfare with drones and surveillance technologies where everyone becomes a potential target with respect to colleterial damage. It shows how foolish we've become as human beings, where death can come for anyone, soldier or civilian, at any time, simply because we cannot reconcile our apparent contradictory perspectives. A stark reflection of our modern society.
Hope to see you there! ☺
