Quote of the Week
My nature smitten with a taint of weakness, confused in mind about dharma, I pray Thee, tell me decisively what is good for me. I am Thy disciple; teach me for I have taken refuge in Thee.
Bhagavad Gita 2.6
Commentary: Arjuna's present state of being is one of deep confusion because he cannot find a solution that would allow him to do his duty as a warrior and simultaneously not bring harm to his loved ones in the opposing army. He is unable to simultaneously satisfy the dictates of his heart, and his mind. This confusion invokes in him an extreme sense of weakness to the very core of his being; he wants to do what is good and right but his heart and mind are telling him to do diametrically opposing things so he finds himself in a state of suspension, unable to act. In this extreme state of helplessness he cowers, and turns to his friend Lord Krishna for help in the desperate hope that if Krishna can see a satisfactory solution, he prays that Krishna would tell him what to do. Arjuna is willing to do whatever may be necessary even to the point of becoming Krishna's disciple. Arjuna knows Krishna only as his dear friend, not as the Lord of Creation, but he seeks refuge in Him nonetheless, for his present state of weakness demands that he find help, so he naturally turns to his dear and trusted friend who is there with him for salvation.
