Quote of the Week
"Brahman is the act of offering; Brahman is the oblation poured by Brahman into the fire that is Brahman.  To Brahman alone must he go who is fixed in Brahman through action."
Bhagavad-Gita 4.24

Commentary:  This verse is a beautiful expression of God's omnipresence.  It reminds us of the truth that our Creator is the Source, Course, and Goal, of every action we seem to take, even the ones we judge to be unworthy, bad or wrong from our physical perspective.  But especially the actions that involve communion, such as meditation, prayer, or any in which God is the focus.  In these activities God plays all parts, viz:  God is the author of every offering (gift giving offered in reverence).  God is the One to Whom the offering is given; She is the Fire that consumes the offering; She is the Giver, the Receiver, and the Offering itself.  The teaching here is that when we participate in offering, we join in complete communion with God.  Thus is communing the highest and most blessed kind or action for it allows us to become one with God.  When God is our fixed focus, every action brings us to God..

It is said that we need do nothing to gain enlightenment for we are already unified with God, but since actions are unavoidable, the best and highest actions we can take are those that reverentially focus on God, for such actions easily bring us into direct union with our Creator.  Therefore, let our actions be reverential reminders of our Creator:  Let us everyday hear a reverential song, read a reverential poem, see a reverential picture, and if possible, speak a few reverential words.

Quote of the Week
"Creatures follow their own nature, even the enlightened man act according to his own nature.  What can restraint accomplish? "
Bhagavad-Gita 3.33

Commentary:   Each and every aspect of creation is driven to activity by the forces of Nature.  Creatures act according to their own nature for that is their role in Life.  The particular actions available to each creature is limited but designed to efficiently accomplish its unique unique goal.  There is a small measure of deviation each is allowed according to its role; a dog for instance can bark and run, but it cannot climb a tree or speak English, for that is not a skill it needs to accomplish its purpose, and no effort or restraint will accomplish that.  We Spirits playing the role of human beings can thus have a more fulfilling physical experience if we too can humbly recognize, appreciate, and operate within the limits of our role in this physical experience.  Each role is necessary and all are valuable, like the pieces of a puzzle, for our eventual appreciation of Creation's perfection.

The Fisher King movie tells the story of a radio shock jock (radio host or DJ who uses controversy to entertain their audience) that is helping a man whose life he inadvertently shattered.  It explores the intermingling of New York city's usually strictly separated social strata, and has been described as "a modern-day quest for the Holy Grail" thus it fuses a New York romantic comedy with the timeless legend of the Fisher King.

The Fisher King is a central figure the Arthurian legend that first appeared in Chrétien de Troyes' 12th-century poem Perceval, the Story of the Grail.  Perceval is the guardian of the Holy Grail, a sacred vessel associated with the Last Supper and believed to hold miraculous healing powers.  The King in the legend is typically wounded, which renders him unable to fulfill his duties as a ruler.  This wound is symbolic of both his personal suffering and the spiritual and physical desolation of his kingdom, which becomes a barren wasteland where nothing grows due to his affliction.  Fortunately, Perceval is the cure he needs.

October 4 - 5th 2025

Quote of the Week
"The attachment and aversion of each sense is located in the object of that sense.  Let no one come under their sway for both indeed are enemies besetting one's path."
Bhagavad-Gita 3.34

Commentary:   The wheel of life turns, providing various situations and perspectives that require a response from us, either:  positive, negative, or neutral.  Action is therefore unavoidable, and is always about choosing our response to life's changing situations.  The quality of our response is usually based on our sense perceptions, thoughts, beliefs, training, knowledge and experience, and the probability that our response will be out of alignment with these, while possible, is highly unlikely.  Yet the ability to maintain our peace or equanimity in the presence of sense objects, thus avoiding the enemies of attachment and aversion, allows us to remain free from the repetitive binding influence of past actions or choices, and gives us the opportunity to now make unlikely or uncharacteristic choices.  Thus freed from our past actions, we gain real freedom of choice.
