Quote of the Week
Partha! Yield not to unmanliness, it is unworthy of you. Shake off this paltry faintheartedness. Stand up O Scorcher-of-enemies!.
Bhagavad-Gita 2.3
Commentary: Lord Krishna addresses Arjuna as Partha the son of Pritha, reminding him of his mother whose name symbolizes her connection to the Earth (Prithivi,) implying that her vast nurturing influence may also be tarnished by his decision not to fight. At the same time, Krishna boosts Arjuna's confidence by reminding him that his faintheartedness is paltry, small and trifling, and it would be unworthy and unmanly of one who has the title of 'Scorcher-of-enemies.' This causes Arjuna to begin to reconsider the consequences of his decision; he finds himself between the proverbial rock and a hard place: If he chooses to fight, he must kill many members of his family, his teachers and friends; but if he chooses not to fight it will bring dishonor to his mother, his family and himself. In the next few verses Arjuna therefore recounts for Krishna the logic of his decision not to fight.
