The Sophia Center for Spirituality presents:
Deeper Than the Skin — Building Bridges With Music
Friday, Jan. 26, 7:00 p.m.
A concert with Reggie Harris and Greg Greenway,
In the Sanctuary of
30 Main Street, Binghamton
Suggested donation: $20 ($15 students)
Born three days apart, Reggie and Greg share ancestry through the same portal of history in Richmond, Va. They are on a pilgrimage together to uncover the racial divisions in America that started them in two different worlds, but also discover the amazing bonds of music, respect, admiration and shared vision that have brought them together.
Deeper Than The Skin is a concert/presentation that explores their unique history as a White man from the capital of the Confederacy and a Black man whose maternal ancestor was a slave on a plantation just outside of Richmond. It’s an electric musical presentation.
Reggie Harris is a folk singer and the music education director of the Living Legacy Project of UUA. He is a Woodrow Wilson Scholar and has led hundreds of programs on race and social justice, both as a solo artist and in a duo with his wife, Kim Harris.
Greg Greenway is a singer/songwriter best known as part of the acclaimed folk trio Brother Sun. His “In the Name of Love,” a lead-in to the U2 classic, “Pride,” was the #5 song on the Folk DJ list in 2013. It has become a defining piece on his journey to becoming an international artist capable of addressing sensitive topics like race in a way that connects audiences to their humanity while entertaining them at the same time.

Raja Yoga and Satsang
Raja Yoga is the royal yoga that brings the nature of our True Self to our awareness. This awareness cannot be gained through perception or intellectual knowledge, it can only be known through cognition, like the knowledge that I am, that I exist, it needs no proof, but without this knowing, the experience remains limited and misunderstood. Come join us as we explore our True Self through:

Seeing that meditation is the most effective means for significant beneficial change in our lives and in the world, simply because it improves the functioning of our most important tool--the brain, and because it is the easiest to implement, we offer this opportunity to dive deeper and marinate longer in the blissful silence of meditation.
The day will consist mostly of sitting meditation punctuated by:
rest, relaxation, sound meditation, pranayama, gentle asanas, Satsang, walking meditation, and a light vegan Soup-du-jour.
